How to Change Cell Color Using the Home Ribbon
The most common way to change a cell's color is by using the fill option found in the home ribbon.
Let's say we have this list of names, and want to make the top row, "First Name" and "Last Name" a dark green.
1. The first step is to select the cells that you want to change the color of:
2. Next, navigate to the Home tab, found at the top left of the Excel window.
3. Then, click on the paint bucket drop down button, to open up the cell background color picker:
4. From this menu, pick whichever color you like, and click it. This will fill all of the selected cells' background with the color that you chose:
How to Change Cell Color Using a Right Click
The second method of changing a cell's fill color is to use the right click menu.
Using our same example, let's say that we want to fill in all the cells with names in them, with a light green color.
1. The first step is to select the cells that you want to change the color of:
2. Next, right click any of the selected cells to bring up this small formatting window. This menu has the same options as the Home Ribbon tab, but is found through right clicking instead:
3. Then, click on the paint bucket drop down button, to open up the cell background color picker:
4. From this menu, pick whichever color you like, and click it. This will fill all of the selected cells' background with the color that you chose:
